The Java Desktop System continued...

The Start Menu

When you click the "Launch" button, the start menu appears:

From there, you can get to various programs.  For example, to open the text editor (gedit), open up the "Accessories" sub menu:

There are also a lot of interesting and weird little games to entertain you.  "Stones" in particular, will use the machine's built-in speaker:

To open a Terminal window, one way to do it is to open up the "Utilities" menu:

Like in CDE/GNOME, there is a way to lock your screen if you have to leave your workstation for a short time ...

... and to log out if you have to leave the lab for the day:

Like the GNOME environment that JDS is based on, a lot of the "look-and-feel" is customizable by the user.  For example, opening the "Desktop Preferences" menu ...
